David Micheal Parker – Gone but never forgotten
(3rd May 1950 – 5th October 2019)
Members of Maltby (Rother Valley) Lions were happy to support Aston Carnival yesterday. A great day was had by all and we had several visitors to our Tombola stall and new Wheel of Fortune, made by our President Dave Parker. Cllr Jenny Andrews, Lord Mayor of Rotherham and Cllr Jenny Mallinder, Lady Mayoress paid us a visit along with a member of Dinnington Brass Band and Zubaidah Belly Dancers and of course everyone who donated to MRVL at our stall and at our Wheel of Fortune. Thank you for your continued support. Lion Pat distributed numerous “Message in a bottles” which we are happy to supply to the community for assistance in emergencies.
Yes, it’s that time of year again, when we start to get excited about Aston Carnival which has been running since 2005.
This years Carnival will again take place on the first Saturday in August and features a parade and the crowning of our Carnival Queen 2019. The parade starts at 11am at Swallownest J&I School and heads to Lodge Lane Recreation.
Activities will include: carnival rides, games, stalls, delicious food and drinks, dancers and much, much more. For further information please visit Aston Carnival’s website >
Maltby Rother Valley Lions were delighted to support the Earl and Countess of Scarborough’s Vintage Garden Party in aid of Support Dogs for autism, epilepsy and disability, SRSB and Rotherham Sight and Sound. A lovely afternoon was had by all and it makes it even better to know that funds raised will go to helping folk in our local communities.
John Rathbone has now handed over the Presidents chain of office to our new President, Dave Parker. Maltby (Rother Valley) Lions wish Dave the best of luck in his new role and also Gerry Haywood as Vice President – you can be sure of the support of all the club.
John Rathbone has been the President of MRVL for the last 7 years. His hard work, leadership and commitment to the club has been outstanding and all the members would like to say a big thank you to him for the great job he has done. “Going the extra mile” is a normal occurrence for John and we are sure his good work will continue within the club. We have a club where we have a great time whilst raising money for good causes – John has played a large part in achieving this. Keep up the good work John!
