Thorne Rural Lions Charity Walk

Yesterday Lions Andrew & Lynn Reaney, Jim & Jean Fletcher, Kath & Ralph Buckingham, Pam Simmonite, Keith Liddelow, Paula Hancock, Terry Ackroyd and Janice Maskill joined Thorne Rural Lions, Doncaster Lions, Tickhill Lions and Went Valley Lions on a 5 mile charity walk from the Town Fields Pavillion to Lakeside Doncaster to raise funds for the children’s ward at Doncaster hospital. As it was a family day some members also took their dogs. It was a hot but enjoyable day and we hope lots was raised for a good cause.

PACT Children’s Charity

It is always a pleasure to support PACT a non profit charity based at Sheffield Children’s Hospital who do so much as they offer support to the families and children with tumours and Leukaemia.

A few details about PACT a service we hope you never have to use but heartwarming to know it is there.

⭐️PACT was founded in 1977 – with a donation of £113 – when eight parents created a support group for families whose children had cancer.

PACT started raising funds for a Christmas party and a summer trip for the children. The charity expanded its remit to include children with leukaemia in 1978 and, as funds were secured, services grew to include new ideas like the provision of equipment and facilities for families.

Over the last 47 years PACT has continued to raise money to help support the families, and increasingly to support the ward and clinic at the hospital.

We own and run a house in Sheffield right next to the Sheffield Childrens Hospital.

We provide practical support by purchasing equipment for the ward, school room and clinic and for the community nurses who look after the children in their own homes.

Every year we provide trips and treats for the children and their families and we own three caravans at local well known holiday parks. These facilities provide a welcome opportunity for a holiday break and some quality family time.

We know how families can often struggle financially during this time and where possible we provide breakfast and lunch for the Parents who’s children are inpatients. We also provide a treat trolley for the children where the children can choose two items free of charge.

We offer our support to every family who is referred to the Oncology unit at Sheffield Children’s Hospital and whose child has cancer irrespective of where they live. Our help continues when the child is in remission or even if the child does not survive and it only stops when the child moves on to adult services.⭐️

Support for Marie Curie

Lions Doing What They Do Best: Volunteering for a Good Cause!
This time, Lion President Lynn and Secretary Janice were excited to volunteer for the Marie Curie charity, a cause close to our hearts. While out in the car park, they had a fun surprise when they met Elvis! Also lending a hand were Lion Vice President Jim and Lion Jean, all coming together to support Marie Curie and make a difference in the community.

47th Charter Dinner

On Friday 14th March we held our 47th Anniversary Charter Evening at Hellaby Hall Hotel. It is an evening where we meet with other Lions clubs in our district, our sponsors distinguished guests and friends

Attending this year were Lord and Lady Scarbrough, District Governor Gillian Swan and Jonathan Lines MDO. Our sponsors Jeremy Neal, Funeral Directors and Maltby Town Council and we also welcomed guests from Lions clubs in Bramley & Wickersley, Doncaster, Thorne Rural, Tickhill and Doncaster Went Valley.

After the formalities and meal we held a raffle and played a game of shove a coin where guests skimmed a £1 coin across the floor and the nearest to the bottle of whisky won it and the lucky winner was Lion Jean Fletcher.

The evening concluded with songs from singer Nicola Cutts and a disco by her husband Steve Cutts.

Annual Santa Sleigh Runs by Maltby and Rother Valley Lions!

The festive season is here, and we’re excited to announce that Maltby and Rother Valley Lions will be embarking on a magical journey through the streets of Rother Valley, accompanied by none other than Santa Claus himself. As we spread holiday cheer, we kindly ask for your support in our charitable efforts. Your generous donations make a significant impact, so any contribution, big or small, is greatly appreciated.
This year, we’re making it even more convenient to support our cause. In addition to traditional cash donations, we’re pleased to accept card donations during our Santa Sleigh Runs. For those who prefer online giving, you can donate securely anytime, all year round, via our website at www.maltbylions.org.uk.
Please be aware that to ensure the smooth flow of our sleigh runs, we won’t be making impromptu stops for photos with Santa. However, don’t worry! You’ll have fantastic photo opportunities at the start of each evening, as listed in our schedules.
Let’s make this holiday season extra special for everyone in Rother Valley. Join us in spreading joy and goodwill, and together, we can make a positive impact on our community. 🎁🌟
